Milktooth Coffee Dealers

It's no secret that Milk Tooth know their coffee – they don't tote themselves as specialty coffee dealers for no reason. These guys are legit, and would sit comfortably amongst the
Top 10 Coffee Spots in the CBD (perhaps even Top 5). Though surprisingly, I love this place more for everything else they sell.
So, I'm just going to throw this out there, and do with it what you will –
this place does the best toasted sandwiches in the Perth CBD.
Before you start –
YES I have been to Toastface Grillah, and
YES I still stand by my original statement (
*GASP!*). I find it amusing how the ol' toastie has been transformed from humble, nostalgic comfort food to a gourmet delight in the CBD with some fierce competition amongst local vendors around here, but alas, I digress.
Let me paint the scene – the city in all its defiant, glass-and-cement-coldness made just that slight bit chillier with the breeze sweeping up Barrack Street from the Swan River, the air misty with that rain-that-isn't-quite-rain but more of a damp blanket of haze lolling on the wind, you've probably stepped in one puddle too many and you're not quite sure whether your feet, your nose or your ears are all still attached as the frosty bite numbed their feeling long ago. Lo and behold, a coffee shop!
Sweet, sweet coffee *drool*.
A whirlwind of fragrances greet your face as the heat rushes to flush your cheeks, first it's the coffee, then it's the garlic wafting from the grill, and then you spot the donuts. Sourced from
Top Dup, a boutique bakery supplier selling what are
arguably Perth's best donuts, these little babies would bring Homer Simpson to his knees.
What makes these toasties so amazing, in my humble opinion, is the way they are toasted - generously slathered in butter, and seared over a grill. The difference between standard sandwich-press toasting and grilling is there is a lot less bread-to-heat contact. Simple enough, right? The seared pattern gives it the crispiness we all crave, but also the soft butter-soaked parts in between the grooves. Stuffed with chicken, cheese, spinach and aioli, this little baby is to die for.
The excitement with this place is almost overwhelming – it's a conflicting internal battle between wanting to wolf down your sandwich to get your dessert and coffee but everything tastes you good that you'll want to savour every bite, but still get it all in as fast as you can… Ah, foodie struggles.
Today's donut selection included Maple Bacon, Chocolate Honeycomb and Raspberry White Chocolate & Pistachio. I chose the latter. Once you pierce the crisp outer shell, your tear your bite away from the soft and pillowy inner flesh, and then the filling swells gently at the edges threatening to overflow. My donut was stuffed (and I mean,
STUFFED!) with a creamy, indulgent raspberry and white chocolate custard.
Word of advice: don't order this during a business meeting, or with any sort of formal agenda. This donut experience is strictly reserved for casual affairs and will have you reminiscing of innocent times as a child battling not to drop your filling, sugar-covered fingers, a sugar-crusted grin and a deep sense of satisfaction.
This place has a relaxed, casual vibe and is perfect for the whole family.
