Tea is not just a drink, it's a way of life. It's soothing and calming - like a warm hug for your insides. Putting on the kettle and waiting for it to boil, pouring the steaming hot liquid and watching the tea leaves unfurl... it's a meditation!

I enjoy all kinds of tea - black, green, matcha, chai, herbal and even chocolate-tea! I also like iced-tea and I hadn't tried 'bubble tea' yet - so I popped into the new MIlksha store on Elizabeth St.

With more than 200 stores in Taiwan and around the world, Milksha has opened its first Australian flagship store here in Melbourne CBD!

The shop was full, and I joined a small line inside. Luckily the wait wasn't too long but I must have arrived just before rush hour, as the line quickly grew out the door...

I ordered one of the signature drinks - the Japanese Matcha Latte with red bean. Made with high quality matcha tea powder (yum) from the century-old Japanese brand Izumo Tousuien - it was deliciously smooth and refreshing, and the red bean flavour was a nice contrast and also complimentary.

I was immediately hooked... The ingredients were super fresh and tasty, and I immediately understood why the bubble tea phenomenon is so big!

What I also loved was the cute little fabric cup holder with the iconic Flinders St Station image and Aussie flag printed on it. Perfect to take my drink away with me...

Combining high-quality tea, sourced from various regions around the world, with sago pearls - delivered fresh from Taiwan and cooked in-store and locally sourced milk from Saint David Dairy, based in Victoria - Milksha aims to bring the best and healthiest bubble tea to Australia.

The founder of Milksha is a third-generation dairy farmer from Southern Taiwan, so to honour the brand's origins, Milksha has decided to support local farmers.

The pearls in Milksha beverages are preservative, additive and colouring free. The tea leaves are brewed and tested regularly for quality control and the water goes through a 9-step filtration process.

While this Taiwanese tea-based drink was invented back in the '80s, it's only in recent years that it has come to Australia - with bubble tea stores popping up all over our cities.

With the weather warming up, I can't wait to go back and try some of the other bubble teas on offer - like the Earl Grey Tea Latte with Honey Pearls and the Iced Orange Green Tea.

Check out the menu and try Milksha for yourself - 134 Elizabeth St Melbourne, open 7 days 11am - 10pm!
