If you're looking for a genuinely great coffee experience, you simply must stop by the recently opened at Bowen Hills. Having passed the cafe several times, I was initially intrigued by the unique decor. Curiosity got the better of me and I dropped by for a coffee only to uncover a hidden treasure. Not only does Milk offer simply sensational coffee, it also provides a truly unique space within which to relax and enjoy yourself.
The intimate and informal setting had a genuinely irresistible charm that emanated from every aspect of the cafe's organic design. This is due to the fact that everything in the place is recycled, handmade or personally sourced by owner Luke Margaritis. His attention to detail is evident throughout the cafe, from the hand crafted cushion covers to the carefully selected and painted furnishings and decor. From concept to creation this space is an entirely original construct, thereby giving the cafe a truly authentic vibe.
This creative enterprise is a work in progress with much more still to come. While the espresso bar is up and running, serving perfectly brewed cups of Di Bella's Felici Blend coffee, the back rooms of this cafe hold promises of 1930s and 1970s style tea houses. However, it might be a little while before these parts of the cafe are open. Don't let that delay you from visiting the space in the meantime though. It really is a great place to enjoy a drop on the go or a leisurely cup of coffee with friends.
Clearly Milk is already a favourite amongst the locals. However, it is also attracting business from all parts of Brisbane. Boasting an ingenious loyalty board, countless names of devotees are already inscribed on the wall. Become a loyal follower and every fifth cup of coffee is yours free. While the cafe does offer an array of snacks and light meals, the main focus is definitely the assortment of fine beverages. Luke has worked with Di Bella for years, and hence knows the secret to the perfect cup every time.
I sampled an authentic Italian Iced Latte ($4.50) which was a refreshing and perfectly blended combination of vanilla, espresso, milk and ice. I highly recommend it as it was delicious without being too sweet. However, there are lots of other caffeinated and cold drinks to choose from such as your standard coffees and teas, espressos, mochas, hot chocolates, iced coffees and bottled beverages. Every coffee and tea brewed adheres to Luke's stringent standards and preparation techniques.
Additionally, if you're looking for something to accompany your beverage you can choose from a selection of biscuits, muffins and slices. However, if you would like something more filling the cafe also offers substantial savory items such as croissants, breakfast and lunch rolls as well as salads. These are the perfect accompaniments to a delicious and freshly brewed cup of coffee. Whether you stop by for the coffee, food or the ambience you are certain to be delightfully surprised by the experience.
Currently open weekdays from 6:30 am to 2:30 pm, this cosy espresso bar and tea house is the perfect destination for locals and anyone passing through the area. However, if you are located further afield and decide to make the trip, you won't be disappointed. This very new cafe is guaranteed to become a Brisbane hot spot for anyone wanting a fantastic cup of coffee. I encourage you to drop by and have a chat to the owner Luke and explore the space as it develops.
