Milford St. Shakers: Soul Slap! - FRINGE WORLD Festival

Music lovers can expect an hour of powerful Sixties soul and blues in a short, sharp slap, when the Milford Street Shakers perform as part of Fringe World's Sunset Veranda at Scarborough.

The nine-piece band is scheduled for two performances at 7.30pm on January 18 and 5pm on January 27 in what bandleader Dom D'Leno says will be a memorable journey across the landscape of the iconic music of the era.

It will be music to dance to with styles like Do the Watusi, The Mashed Potato, and The Twist, in what Dom says will be a dance party of epic proportions as the band pays tribute to the soul music of people like Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Etta James and James Brown.

The band features the big sounds of the M Street Horns and the voice of Lee Morunga, who toured for 10 years with Disney's 'The Lion King' in Australia and Europe.

Dom says the music will appeal to people of all ages from 20 to 80 who love to dance.

The Fringe World concerts at the new Scarborough Beach allow concertgoers to watch the sun go down from an open-air bar while they enjoy local and imported drinks and gourmet food from a range of vendors.

With the powerful voice of Lee Morunga up front, the Milford Street Shakers feature James Vinciullo on bass, Dominic D'Leno on drums, Imogen Thomson on percussion, Kallan Phillips on guitar, Austin Salisbury on keys, Robert Bresland on trumpet, Glyn MacDonald on trombone and Mark Sprogowski on baritone sax.

According to Dom, having Lee Morunga's big voice as part of the band has added a new level of warmth and depth to the songs.

Minors attending The Sunset Veranda, which is an 18 plus venue, must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Tickets for the January 18 preview show cost $18 and for the January 27 show, $25. Both shows have a $2.20 website fee and can be bought athttps://fringeworld.com.au/whats_on/milford-st-shakers-soul-slap-fw2019

The Big Top at Sunset Veranda, Brighton Reserve is at 204 The Esplanade, Scarborough.
