MILAN ROUGE CELEBRATES MUGS DAY IN STYLE Rose Maguire and Alison Arnold opened Milan Rouge Contemporary Craft and Design in Stirling in November 2012. They have been working tirelessly over the past few weeks, producing mugs of their own and encouraging other artist/potters to contribute to Stirling's annual Mugs Day, which is this Sunday, June 29.
This Sunday Stirling welcomes the cold and wintry weather with its traditional Mugs Day. The tradition was started back in the 1970s by Aldgate Crafts, and every year cafes in Stirling have come up with original ways of offering customers warming mugs of soup, coffee, cocoa or tea to cheer us through the winter gloom. Rose and Ali want to re-instil the original idea of Mugs Day, which was about exhibiting the finest work of craftsman-potters in the atmosphere of a cheerful winter festival, accompanied by mulled wine and live music. Some of the potters whose work will be for sale at the shop this weekend were part of the first Mugs Day Festival. You can buy mugs made by well-known names such as Merrilyn Stock, Erin Harrald, Jane Burbidge, John Ullinger, Anne-Marie Moncrieff, Angela Walford, Sally Baddams, Philip Hart, Elodie Barker and Charmain Hearder – and of course, Rose and Ali!

DESIGN YOUR OWN MUG! This year, in keeping with their aim to stimulate their customers' creative talents, Milan Rouge is encouraging us all to design the mug of our wildest dreams. The three most creative designers will win their choice of handmade mug from the delectable array that will be on display in the shop. The design does not have to be practical – it can be as crazy and outrageous as you like! – but it does have to have a handle. Email contact@milanrouge for an entry form, and deliver/post your designs to Milan Rouge contemporary Craft and Design, 2 Oak Plaza, 11 Mt Barker Road, Stirling 5051 - or just email them. But be quick! The competition closes at 5pm on Saturday June 28.
