The South Australian Migration Museum is a celebration of migrants and their cultural contributions to the state of South Australia. The museum explores traditions, stories and experiences of those people who bravely left all they knew to start a new life in a strange country. The main gallery is an historical journey of immigration history and celebrates our immense multicultural differences.
Collections include permanent exhibitions like 'Behind The Wall,' with a focus on the original use for the building that now houses the Migration Museum. From the 1850's until 1918, the building was used as a Destitute Asylum. Another exhibition contains beautiful contemporary Aboriginal artworks, a reminder of the true historical owners of this land.
