This has been very much Shakespeare's year. I would hope that at least one birthday during his life was celebrated with one thousandth of the joy his 450th has been.

The latest cab off the Elizabethean rank looks like being a joyous one. Phoenix Theatre are hosting a cut-down version (fifty minutes) of A Midsummer Night's Dream performed by the students of The Drama Club, the youth drama class of IntotheMask Theatre .

Directed by youth cöordinator and teacher Alethea Bevilaqua, the production features all the fun of the magical mayhem, while retaining the seriousness of power and love.

Director Bevilaqua says: "The show is a fun-filled performance by the students who have committed to Shakespeare's language, which is an achievement in itself. The students have found it quite difficult to work out what they are saying to each other, and it's great when that 'light bulb' moment happens as they finally realise."

A Midsummer Night's Dream also features a flute score written and performed by 11-year-old Annie Viljoen.

A Midsummer Night's Dream runs from November the 28th, to December the 7th. Tickets are $20, $18 concession plus transaction fees – book through TAZTix on 9255 3336 or on their website .

Phoenix Theatre is located at 435 Carrington Street, Hamilton Hill, within the Hamilton Hill Memorial Hall.
