This is going to be a hoot and a must attend carnival
The Midsumma Carnival kick-starts the celebrations for Midsumma Festival 2019 on 20th January 2019, from 11 am until 5 pm. Held at the Alexandra Gardens, St Kilda Road, Melbourne, all your favourites are back again this year, including the dog show with many added fantastic fine acts, food and a pop-up bar.

Plus you will be able to chill out and relax, watch fabulous entertainment, meet friends in the family domain, tackle the sports precinct and stay cool in the under 18s area. All these wonderful events will lead into the evening of T Dance, where there will be brilliant DJs and music, as well as somewhere for families, friendlies, queer kinds and groupies to safely relax and have a good time.

Midsumma Carnival is a glass-free event, so bring your own sustainable cups and paper straws.

Following the Midsumma Carnival, the festival program will be unleashed, with no less than 167 different events. It is absolutely massive and some of the entertainment highlights include:

An exhibition of miniature dioramas and "potty-mouthed puns" by installation artist, Tinky. Through these miniature dioramas, Melbourne street artist Tinky showcases her humorous designs in a provoking exhibition 'Unzipped'.

The exhibition is all small items made simply to amuse people and it is great to see such an unusual display! Make sure you do not miss this exhibition and each unique piece has a story that will make you smile. This is free and you can read more about it at this link.

This is adapted from Oscar Wilde's classic tale and presented by Bitten By Productions. In 1890, the rich socialite Dorian Gray was found dead. He was only recognisable by the rings on his fingers and was found near a painting of himself in his prime.

Now, in the present, there is a young man who bears a striking resemblance to that actual painting and the story goes on from there, when he is forced to answer for many years of crimes. You can find out dates and more information at this link.

Here you will discover what happened to Jeremy Baxter. Everything will go to plan as long as everyone follows the rules... this drama is about wealthy Jeremy, who is kidnapped and the kidnappers want the money to start a new life. More information at this link.

This will be presented by Maeve Marsden and it is the strange and often side-splittingly funny world of Queerstories. There will be tales of the unexpected from a range of stars and strangers, and stories of lives and battles fought, and more. This was the winner of Best Spoken Word at Sydney Fringe Festival 2016.

More information can be seen here but please note - this one is only on once.

This event is on one day only, so please note. It will be presented by the Queer Youth Alliance Network and is for 12 to 25-year-olds. If you want to meet other gays, lesbian, bisexual, trans and queer young people, then this is the event for you.

This will be a FREE event, however, you will need to pay for the food. There will be DJs and prizes for the best dress up.

More information can be seen by clicking here.
