Kicking off 22 days of the 2018 Midsumma Festival season is the Midsumma Carnival, the most fabulous queer-day-out! Alexandra Gardens on St Kilda Road, Melbourne will be transformed on Sunday 14 January 2018 (glass free zone, so don't bring any) from 11am to 6pm with T Dance from 6-10pm. Entry is free.
With a tasting plate of performances and personalities from the festival program, it'll be like a smorgasbord to choose events from, that you'd like to see more of over the 22 days. It's a giant showcase with something for everyone.
Filled with food trucks, bars, stalls, an under 18s area, a rest zone and Midsumma's very first tactile installation by Slow Art Collective in collaboration with Description Victoria, you can get tactile and feel the community vibe across all of your senses. There'll be sports displays, the famous Dog Show and the every popular Lipsync Limelight competition. Check out the Facebook Event Page for the stellar lineup on the day. Featuring greats like Dolly Diamond, Belinda Davids as Whitney Houston, Mr Gay Pride Australia, Miss Gay & Miss Transsexual Australia, plus an array of DJs and more, there's lots to look forward to.
There's a Youth Pavilion operating from 11am to 5pm, where only queer young people can hang out. There'll be DJ's, cute activities, rainbow painting, glitter stations, and inflatable goodness for you to lounge all over and more. Again, a totally free event, just rock up and soak it all in.
Look forward to tunes by Lilly Street, Jale, and Balluk. BYO snacks and soft drink or buy it at the event. For more information, check out the Facebook Event Page. Stay in touch on the Facebook page as well for updates.
