As the Fringe Festival rolls around again this year and Perth is caught in a buzz, the residents of Midland have put together something special of their own. For the past three years the creators behind Jump Climb, a local creative event agency, have created Midlandia which is an arts festival to spread theatre and art through the community and link the town of Midland with Fringe World Perth.



Located in the Midland Junction Arts Centre and surrounding grounds, Midlandia showcases some truly talented acts from across Fringe World, including award winning cabaret performer Gillian Cosgriff, Best of the Fest which showcases some of the best comedians from Fringe World and more.

As I attended the launch on Tuesday, I can see just how much work has gone into organising this festival for its third year running. The location of the festival is the Midland Arts Centre which is the hub for all arts in the Midland area so it is understandable that it will be the host for Midlandia. The venue contains a pop-up bar for patrons to enjoy a pre-show and post-show drink as well as music and food trucks. This area is a perfect spot to sit back and socialise both before and after your show. The courtyard is very nicely designed with hanging lights scattered above your heads and the ground decorated with some interesting and unusual choices for tables and chairs; for example old bus chairs add a festival feel to the space and add a quirkiness that Fringe promotes at all their venues. The performers at Midlandia this year are very talented and we should all come along and support arts in our community and also support the amount of work that has gone in to ensure this festival is held.

There are a total of 18 shows playing at Midlandia during the season but there are also a number of community events that will take place as well, such as the Suitcase Rummage, Astronomy Art Exhibition and the "Joy" Photo Exhibition. Midlandia runs from the 4th until the 20th of February.
