We all have our local take out. And we take full advantage of our little hubs after a long day at work when the stovetop is a distant thought.

It might be the local pizza joint, the Thai place on the corner, the little Chinese Shack that cooks okay meals, we could cook better but really, we can't be bothered...

It's rare for a local take out venue to be more than just the last resort to fill exhausted tummies; offers more than the average pizza, delights with restaurant quality fragrances and flavour.

Tucked away at a complex of shops on a main road in Newport, Redcliffe, it would be forgiven to assume the 'pizza place on the corner' is just another take out place for the weekend or mid week saviour.

The paper menu brochure had been floating around in our 'junk' drawer for years, and fed up with bland pizzas leaving an oily residue on my skin for the next day from the regular places, I gave good ol' Miccos a call.

That is when my life changed.

I am proud to announce, my local take out joint, is a gourmet restaurant, not only offering hearty, delicious meals, the small but tidy café offers restaurant seating and a great ambience!

After weeks of trialling different pizzas, from the Pumpkin and Pine nut Pizza on Grain base (A Must! The pumpkin is sweet and grain base perfectly baked with no fatty residue, the pizza box was clean of the usual damp patch of oil) to the Mexican Pizza topped with corn chips and sour cream, I decided to slip into some heels and eat in.

With a bottle of red at hand and good conversation ready after a long week at work, my husband and I truly felt as though we were dining at an inner city restaurant. The fire burners were ablaze, the tables around us were filled with chatty diners and the food was four star quality.

I ordered the Sweet Chilli Prawn Spaghetti which had me returning for more in a take out container on Friday nights. (Please note, Prawn Lovers, this meal best ordered with the spaghetti rather than other pasta options as this allows for optimum taste and saucy result as the fettucine and penne soak up the sauce leaving prawns a little dry).

Every menu item on the Miccolinis menu is gourmet, the pizzas look small but are delightfully filling thanks to the 'real' ingredients piled on top, the pastas are saucy and fresh and the staff friendly.

Miccolini's in Newport is no take out joint like I had initially thought. This place offers great food without the guilt.

Obviously if you do not live on the Northside, you would not dial Miccolinis for a quick take out fix. But if you really would like to eat out somewhere different, take the drive and give it a try. Delicious! Bellisimo!
