Greek tavernas are famous for their seafood and lamb dishes. Just down Mr Wooby's lane at Salamanca Square, in one of the old bond stores not far from Hobart's historic waterfront, there is . Here you will find some of the best Greek food and hospitality in Australia.

Mezethes is Greek to a fault, with its whitewashed walls and paintings of Greece. If you get there at the right time you are likely to be greeted by the wonderfully ebullient Stas. The restaurant is owned by the Spandoris family and their food is "the real deal." Basically everything possible is sourced in Tasmania and cooked perfectly. Do you have special dietary needs? Just mention them and the kitchen will sort it out for you.
If you want a wonderful lunch, go to Mezethes and order their luncheon wrap. You can have the popular lamb, chicken or roasted vegetable souvlaki. All of these are delicious and with a glass or two of a local crisp white wine, or a local beer, you will know you have dined very well indeed. That sort of lunch will set you back less than $40 for two and if the weather is fine, you can sit at one of the outdoor tables where your service will be every bit as efficient.

To paraphrase Casca in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, "It's all Greek to me." Well, yes, it is and it is delicious!
