No need to board the aircraft as the Mexican Festival is flying into you. Held at Federation Square, Cnr Flinders and Swanston Streets in the CBD over two days (14-15 Sep 2019 from 11.30am to 8.30pm each day), this is a showcase of the best of Mexico. Entry is FREE.
Enjoy traditional dishes from some of the 32 states of the Mexican Republic like tacos, tamales, tortas, tostadas and more, while the Viva Mexico Stage presents local Mexican musicians, folk dancing, live mariachi band etcetera, with the Riverside stage having a live DJs set. The vibrant bass-leaded Sound System of Aztek Electronic Music delivers corazon-based music and the Mexican producer, Melbourne based mixing live elements of Dub, Techno, Cumbia and Mexican Folklore will be warming up the Mexican Cantina from the start, so be sure to arrive early.
Enjoy Mexican drinks such as Margaritas and palomas made with tequila, along with traditional beers like Corona, Pacifico and Negra Modelo and Mexican wines at the Cantina. However if you'd rather shop, the Mexican Market will be filled with authentic Mexican handcrafts, jewellery, Mexican textiles, ceramics and Mexican food products and services. The kids don't miss out either with Kid's Cornercatering to children from 12 months to 12 years.
They'll be making Piñatas, maracas, Mexican art, decorating a skull, playing music with the Mexican Music Man, face painting, photo booth and more. The Window to México art exhibition is back to inspire you, plus there'll be Mexican cinema screenings at Kids Corner to keep everyone entertained.
