A few weekends ago I headed to Metricon Stadium to try and grab a glimpse of the Suns' first home win. The weather was a bit ominous early, but as it drew closer to the first bounce, the Sun came out (hopefully a sign of things to come).
With the Kidzone over the back of the ground, the kids have somewhere to go during the break allowing them to test out their kicking, marking and handball skills within the inflatable field whilst under the supervision of AFL Queensland workers, allowing the parents to enjoy a social drink at a number of the bars at the ground.
With meat pie and bottle of coke in hand, I took my seat and was looking forward to the battle ahead. It was well publicised during the week that it was the Suns, best chance of a inaugural home win. The Suns did not disappoint the passionate crowd and registered their first home victory. Fireworks were set off and the Suns' team song was played numerous times, allowing the crowd to join in and give Metricon Stadium an "MCG" feel.
The pre game and after game entertainment provided was nothing short of brilliant. Live music, Sunny Ray (Suns Mascot) walking round high fiving kids and the excitement of witnessing the Suns' first home win made the day very enjoyable. Metricon is a great place to take the family and watch the footy, as you're close to the players and ground wherever you sit in an electric atmosphere.
The prices into Metricon Stadium allow families to go along and enjoy an awesome experience watching a young, developing group of future AFL stars. A family pass starts at $49 and single adult prices start at $22.50, making it an affordable day out for family and friends.
All in all, a day at Metricon Stadium is a must where you can witness a young team making there way in the AFL. A terrific venue, great hospitality and superb atmosphere make it a great day out for the family.
