Take six artists and six types of material. Mix for six hours and enjoy the amazing works of art that result as the scraps and discards of local industry are transformed into something completely different. This is the meaning of metamorphosis and at the annual REmida Day , the Metamorph-This! game is one anyone can play.


Metamorph-This! REmida day offers exposure to emerging artists as well as a chance for people of all ages to be inspired. Join the Public Sculpture Zone and make your own artwork, or contribute to a community project. A special children's playground provides a place for the younger family members to create their own masterpieces.

REmida WA is part of an international network originating in Italy. The name is based on the mythological King Midas and the organisation "encourages a golden perspective on discarded materials". They present workshops to children of all ages using the concepts of explore, construct and play to teach the "endless possibilities of reuse". [ REmida WA website ]


Local artists working on the day include Sean E Avery , author and illustrator of All Monkeys Love Bananas , multidisciplinary artist Minaxi May, sculptor and painter Matt McVeigh , set and costume designer Iona McAuley and fabric and textile artist Gila Cohen. Also participating is REmida's current Artist in Residence, Indonesian performer and visual artist Ismiadi. With such a talented and eclectic line-up, the result is sure to be marvellous.


All materials used are donated, clean, and safe for children and adults to use in their flights of creative fancy.
