Take the mess elsewhere these September School Holidays
Mess is part of life with children – it's how they play, learn about food and how they have such fun with a full jar of Sudocrem (that stuff does NOT come out of carpets easily.) Mess with children is so much better when it happens outside of the home. For children who just love to create a big fat mess (which is all of them) Perth has some great September school holiday activities for the messy at heart.
There's nothing messier than mud! Children aged nine and over can take part in the Swan Valley Mudfest and trawl their way through 5km of genuine mud. Along with mud, there are 25 obstacles to tackle designed for all fitness levels. There's no time limit, so kids and parents alike can take as long as they need to tackle all that mud. You can even come dressed as your favourite character! All children aged between 9 and 14 years must have a registered guardian with them at all times, while guardians of kids aged 15 to 18 years will need to sign a waiver.
Registration is $66 per person, plus booking fee, or $200 for a team pass for four people.
Slime Time At The Aquarium of Western Australia (AQWA) AQWA, 91 Southside Drive, Hillarys 9447 7500 20 September to 31 October during opening hours Website: www.aqwa.com.au/visit/whatson/
Who doesn't love a good dollop of slime? This school holidays, AQWA will teach your kids all the fascinating and outrageous means by which sea creatures use slime to thrive and survive. Get messy at the interactive slime station, make your own slime and sink your hands into the synthetic hagfish slime pit. It's going to be a truly magnificent messy event. Standard entry prices apply with no additional costs to enter Slime Time. Bookings are not required.

Lego is the king of the messy toys, but this isn't any old Lego – this is a Master Builder Challenge in which kids will create their own Lego model using digital software. Cool! School's Out at Scitech – Forensics Scitech, Corner of Sunderland and Railway Street West Perth 9215 0700 Friday, 22 September to Friday, 6 October during opening hours
Creating your own fake wounds has the potential to get pretty messy and not something you want to clean up after, so ship the kids off to Scitech for this fantastic forensics activity. School's Out at Scitech – Forensics is a host of creative, fun workshops that include crime story-time with puppet detectives and a heap of CSI activities and the current Whodunnit exhibition.
So take the mess out of your home, even if it's only for a few hours. Your house will thank you for the break.
