The Milford Street Shakers will be rolling out its swinging rhythm and blues repertoire for a performance at the new Duke of George, New Orleans-style jazz bar which recently opened in Fremantle.

Special guest for the Mess Around show on Saturday, February 9, is former Stratosfunk lead singer Yara Neto.

Yara was Stratosfunk's lead singer from the band's beginning in 2008, playing with many of the band members who went on to become the Milford Street Shakers.



She spent seven years with the band, blending her love of singing soul music while completing a masters degree in psychology and then motherhood and will be joining the dynamic nine-piece on a memorable journey across the iconic 60s.

The Milford Street Shakers will bridge the simplicity of the blues with the expressivity of R&B with their own take on classics such as Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Land of 1000 Dances and Uptight (Everything's Alright) that will have the audience out of its seats and up dancing.

Dressed in dapper 1960s style the band is passionate about the era and its music, going beyond a typical cover band to deliver a soul spectacular of epic proportions.



They bring their infectious energy to the stage which will make the Milford Street Shakers Mess Around show at the Duke of George compelling entertainment.

For those looking to make a real night of it, there are dinner and show packages are on offer.

The Hippie dinner and show option includes a first-course pickle platter and griddle corn cakes and second course of okra and black bean gumbo, cornbread and maple glazed root veg for $157.93 for two people.

The Blues and Roots option has a first course of southern fried chicken, Dukes Caesar salad and bourbon bacon and a second course of chicken and sausage jambalaya, pulled pork slider and sweet potato fries for $157.93 for two people.



The Seafood option includes a first course of Bloody Mary tiger prawn and crab cocktail and char-grilled calamari and a second course of prawn and clam jambalaya, crispy fried whiting with black eyed pea salsa and apple slaw. The meal comes with either a glass of champagne or oysters and costs $208.91 for two people.

The new live music venue has been brought to life in the semi-basement of the heritage listed Brush Factory building at the top of George Street in East Fremantle.

The philosophy of the venue is to present quality live music in the Blues genre-crossing into jazz, folk, soul and more.

Built-in 1901 to manufacture brushes and brooms, The Brush Factory was eventually taken over by Main Roads as a depot and then as a fine arts and antique business.



Its current owners have had the site since 2009, restoring the heritage building and creating a hub, housing the Duke of George Blues and Jazz venue, diverse performing arts spaces and lifestyle studios and offices for the arts industry and local commercial business.
