Hire a unique venue for a very special party or event
Croquet has lost favour in recent years and many clubs are facing dire times with membership at record lows and many current members approaching their twilight years. One of the most beautiful Croquet clubs in Brisbane is in Methyr, just near New Farm Park and The Powerhouse. Nestled among some shady trees, the clubhouse stands at the back of two lawns where you can sit and watch the game or take a break for a drink out of the sun.
The club is available for hire for parties and events and in such a beautiful setting, you would be happy to sit and while the afternoon away. Bring your own food and drink and voila! You will have the makings of a fun afternoon while you are taught the ins and outs of croquet by one of the club's experienced members. Hiring the venue is a great way of keeping the tradition alive as your fee goes directly back into the keeping of the lawns and clubhouse so you'll feel like you're preserving some of Brisbane's history as well as enjoying yourself thoroughly.
Founded in 1908, this is one of the oldest clubs in Queensland and has seen a lot of growth and change since it started. It has undergone its own changes when the clubhouse was moved from one end of the lawns to the other to accommodate those who wanted to play in the hot summer afternoons - the building used to hog the shade but now occupies the sunniest position. If you would like to head along for a few games but don't want to have a party there, you can also purchase a visiting membership for $20 and try out the game for six weeks.
