Token Events together with The Adelaide Fringe Festival presents Merrick Watts in 'Man of the Hour' playing at The Garden of Unearthly Delights: Studio 7 until February 25th. Merrick Watts is 43 and happy about it, anyone younger than 30 is now a young person. The age he is means he is married with two kids and has never been happier. The show is about what he's learnt throughout his life, being a father and dealing with loss.

His first solo show is a storytelling experience about a terrible gastro accident that could've been prevented if only he had listened to his wife. He tells the audience how you know if you're in love and if someone loves you back. The answer is get gastro; if they stick around after seeing you in such a state, knowing you can never look worst, it's love.

Kids these days will never understand growing up in the 80s. Just looking at a playground in the 80s would give you a broken arm, because they were death traps. These days playgrounds are made in fluorescent colours with sponge floors, so if you fall off the swing you bounce straight back up again.

People in the 80s never threw anything away, they burnt it because everyone had an incinerator in their backyards and fire was like a new toy. Kids these days will never experience listening in on phone calls; back in the 80s there were no mobile phones, every household had a landline with three handsets, that made listening in on your older brothers conversations with his girlfriends an easy option.

Parents of the 80s made their children's clothes, but Merrick was the only one with a homemade suit of wool that he wore on his first day of school; the first day of school is in summer. The show wasn't all laughs it did take a serious turn when Watts spoke to the audience about his father's last words before he died. His father left him a voicemail from the hospital when he took a turn for the worst and without thinking, Watts deleted the voicemail and rang the hospital back to hear that his father had sadly passed. It took him a while to deal with the fact that he never got to hear his father's last words, until he discovered phone backup.
