This weekend you don't have to go far to discover the delights of nature. Just outside of Melbourne city, a little to the north, and slightly to the east, is the wondrous Merri Creek Trail.
At Dight Falls, near where the Merri Creek and the Yarra River meet, the trail begins and snakes merrily along for 21km through the northern suburbs of Melbourne.
Hop on your bike or simply strap on your trainers to explore the flora and fauna. Along the way, take some time to visit Coburg Lake Reserve, the Brunswick Velodrome and CERES Community Environment Park.
As an added bonus, CERES hosts a superb farmer's market every Saturday morning where you can pick up your 5-a-day from the huge array of fresh, organic produce. Time your journey well, and you'll also get your grocery shopping done. How's that for a day out?
Very conveniently, the Merri Creek Trail joins up with the Capital City Trail and Yarra River Trail in the south, and the Western Ring Road Trail in the north, so you can continue your ride or walk all weekend long. As nature intended.
