See and Experience SA's Spectacular Outback
A trip to the ancient landscape of the Flinders Ranges in South Australia's outback should be on everyone's 'To Do' list.

A day trip just won't cut it. You need time to soak it all in - the history, the people, the colours, the flora and fauna, the amazing beauty of it all at different times of the day.

Merna Mora Station, on the western side of Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges, is a working sheep and cattle station. It's located 42 kilometres north of Hawker on the Outback Highway (the road to Parachilna, Leigh Creek, and beyond).

The Station is run by fifth generation locals who have been on the land since 1886. In 1968 they opened their property up to visitors.

Station accommodation includes self contained units, 10 room backpackers bunkhouse with communal facilities, powered sites, and bush camping in a secluded creek setting.

It's the unique location of the property that is a draw card for me to keep returning. The station is situated between Lake Torrens on one side and Wilpena Pound on the other. Access to the Moralana Track is at their front gate.

Brachina and Bunyeroo Gorges, Hawker and Parachilna are a scenic, easy drive to get to. It's the perfect base for a perfect holiday stay. The sunsets from Merna Mora are classically spectacular. A quick trip to the property's airstrip at sunset will guarantee a breathtaking sight.

Their windmill in a paddock, with Wilpena set as the backdrop is a well known and iconic Australian photo. I've had that shot on my 'bucket list' of photos for a while and was happy to have gotten it. But, more than getting the shot, I was awe inspired to have been standing in that spot watching the sun set. Nothing can compare to that experience.

On my last trip to Merna Mora, we did day trips out each day and did as much exploring as we could. We found it so easy to get to:

Wilpena Pound
Brachina Gorge
Bunyeroo Gorge
Parachilna Gorge
Historic Blinman and Beltana townships
Hawker
Moralana Track

All of these areas were easily accessible in a conventional vehicle and were all within an hour's drive from Merna Mora.

But, if you're into four wheel driving, Merna Mora station has four uniquely different and exciting tracks to explore.

If you're looking for a cheap, comfortable and friendly place to stay for a few days or longer, then give the Fels family a call at Merna Mora. It's a genuine and authentic outback experience.

5 generations "WOW". this family are obviously leading the way in succession planning for them to be there this long they must have a good handle on how to provide for all the family members. It looks like a beautiful place.
