Warming winter food
Turn up the heat & get cosy with Merlo's Winter Warmers.

I road tested the menu and went for the Soup of the Day to warm the cockles of my soul. It was pumpkin on the day I stopped by, and a big favourite with me and a definite thumbs up on the taste test.

I choose a delicious rye and beef combination from the gourmet sandwiches range to accompany the soup.

There's plenty to choose from with a selection of savoury bagels in the Haloumi Vege Bagel and the Smoked Salmon Bagel, a range of zesty vegetarian lunches with the Smashed Pumpkin & Feta Wrap, the Falafel, beetroot hummus and tabouli wrap, or the bowl that is the perfect meatless meal for one in the Winter Buddha Bowl.

The new Winter Menu is at Merlo Queen Street, George Street, Southbank, UQ and QUT. Opening hours vary, please visit

Chirpy and helpful staff were on hand when I visited the Merlo Queen Street café.

There are plenty of beverages to warm up from the cold weather. Wrap your mitts around one of these Merlo winter blends to sip on – there's one for each day of the week! My choice was dirty chai which was one of the best I've tasted,

Ethiopia Choche is the June Bean of the Month. A clean sweet and smooth coffee, with notes of chocolate and toffee and whispers of pear and red grapes, Ethiopian Tilku Choche is clean and balanced, with a medium mouthfeel.

Espresso is a full-bodied, traditional Italian coffee. Warm and rich, with deep cocoa chocolate notes, it is the perfect accompaniment on a cold winter's day.

The Merlo Private blend is a three continent, six bean blend, combining the best flavour and aroma characteristics from Costa Rica, Colombia, Nicaragua and Papua New Guinea beans. It is a rich and harmonious brew, with sweet nutty notes.

Forza is Italian for strength and force, so naturally this blend delivers both, with big flavours and a little extra caffeine. A small amount of Robusta is blended for added oomph, adding intensity and a full body to round out the rich oak and toffee flavours. This sweet, but earthy coffee blends beans from Kenya, Indonesia, Brazil and Papua New Guinea.

With complex aromas and notes of brown sugar and hazelnut, and chocolate flavours, the Organico blend is made from 100% organic green beans. Warm and sweet, this blend is fresh and full-bodied with nutty aromas with beans from Brazil, Papua New Guinea, Guatemala, Sumatra, Colombia, and Nicaragua.

The Bean of the Month and all Merlo blends are available at all Merlo owned stores with customers able to try their regular coffee on the featured bean for no extra cost. Coffee to take home starts at $12.00 for 200g. The Bean of the Month often sells out as they are smaller lots, so once it's gone, it's gone for good!
