Sydney's Summer Festival - Meriton Festival Village is back this year from
6 - 28 January 2018! This is the ultimate epicentre of Sydney Festival for some musical and theatrical delights, along with plenty of delicious eats, all in the heart of the city at Hyde Park. It's the perfect place to kick back in the afternoons or kick on into the warm summer nights.
This year, Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent plays home to a range of ticketed cabaret, music and comedy events. You'll find everything from the risqué boys of
Briefs to the smash-hit Irish cabaret
RIOT; music from counter-cultural icon Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, dark-folk star Aldous Harding, Mali's Bassekou Kouyaté and Argentinian trio
Fémina; comedy from
LORDS OF STRUT and mime Trygve Wakenshaw; and cabaret queen
Lady Rizo!
If you are after something cheap and cheerful, the village's new outdoor stage will host 21 days of free festival fun with free performances and DJs every night.
Come and celebrate the opening of the Meriton Festival Village and the Village Sideshow on
Saturday 6 January. From 4:30 – 8:00pm, you can get free entry to all the Village Sideshow attractions! Check out the freaky virtual reality Ghost Train, or sing a song on the Karaoke Carousel, plus the Village Pools, Glitterbox, Temple of Din pinball artworks, 10 Minute Dance Parties and more.
There will be plenty of yummy food to feast on! Food vendors include:
Alpha Restaurant are serving top-shelf Greek fare with a modern twist, such as lamb, black olive and feta buns, spanakopita and baklava ice cream sandwiches.
The crew behind
Porteño and Bodega are serving up South American street food at Bodega Cantina.
Gelato Messina takes on the classic milk bar ice creams that many Australians remember as a staple of their youth. The range includes decadent Messina variations of a
Golden Gaytime, a
Splice, a
Weis Bar (the Wessina), the
Maxibon,
Milo Cup and more.
Italian experts
Happy As Larry are dishing up pizzas and pasta, dessert calzone and cannoli, and sides like beef and pork ragu loaded fries, zucchini flowers and deep fried lasagna.
Sydney's favourite rock'n'roll burger-slingers,
Mary's, are back again in 2017 to serve up their mouth-watering beef and mushroom burgers and fried chicken.
The
El Capo Food Truck brings South American fusion cuisine, including empanadas, arepas, churrasco steak sandwiches, and vegan and vegetarian options.
And the essential caffeine fix is on hand from the bike-driven coffee stand Brudo's Coffee.
Please note: Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent and bar area are licensed. Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Meriton Festival Village is centrally located and only a short walk from St James, Museum and Town Hall Stations. It is best to catch public transport.
Sit back in the afternoons and enjoy the warm Summer evenings with Sydney Festival 2018.
