True crime is brought to life at Manly in the Mercury Theatre production on Ellen Thomson, the only woman legally hanged in Queensland.

The play is a dramatisation of the events leading to the double hanging of Ellen Thomson and Jack Harrison at Boggo Road Gaol on 13th June, 1887.

What was her crime? Did she do it? The play tells the story of the alleged murder, the court proceedings and the last minute pleas for mercy. It is a fascinating insight into the life and times of far North Queensland, and the perceptions and prejudices of people from vastly different backgrounds who had their own agendas. The play is the story of struggle for justice in the turbulent times of the 1880s in Queensland.

'Presumed Guilty' is written by Margaret Dakin, a resident and well-known writer and artist in the Redlands.
