Meningie's Waterfront Motel offers budget accommodation right on the shores of Lake Albert. The motel is co-located with a cafeteria which offers pizza, seafood and a variety of cakes. The restaurant offers views of the lake and is a truly romantic place to spend a special evening, such as New Years' Eve, Valentine's Day or that special birthday celebration.
A word of wisdom - we discovered that the bargain room I booked was not air-conditioned, instead it featured a large fan. Our visit was during a cool change, so no inconvenience was suffered. The room was also small, but every effort had been made to provide facilities, including a folding table, folding chair and wall hooks for hanging items. The standard inclusions of television, bar fridge and electric jug were also present.
If you want a larger room or require the luxury of air-conditioning, upgrade your room and don't go for the lowest price on their books. A bargain is great and sometimes works out very well, as it did for me, but in the end, you get more when you pay more, especially when a choice is available within the facility.
The beautiful pictures of the private lakefront and boat ramp are actually on-site. Some rooms face the road, but others face the lake. Once again, choose what you want. Access to the lake is through the cafe, possibly for safety reasons.
The staff were friendly and helpful. This made our stay very enjoyable. The motel is well situated for drives around Lake Albert, walking to the Lion's Park in Meningie, where the local market appears to be a monthly event. There is also an IGA and op-shop in town, all very handy if you have forgotten to pack something essential.
