Finer than Fingal's Cave
A Mendelssohn marathon concert is taking place at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, 360 Burwood Road, Hawthorn (intersection of Glenferrie Road) on Sunday 28th February 2016.

Mendelssohn Marathon Concert
12 hours of Mendelssohn music at this concert being held on Sunday 28th February

This 12 hour marathon, running from 9.30am to 9.30pm, will be conducted in six sessions, with breaks for lunch and dinner.

3MBS has previously run a number of successful single composer marathon concerts; however, this one has a twist - it will feature the work both of Felix Mendelssohn and his sister, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, a talented composer in her own right.

Artistic curator Chris Howlett has invited 70 of Australia's finest chamber and vocal musicians to perform more than 25 works. Artists donate their performances to support 3MBS. The station will be broadcasting the entire concert live.

"When the best musicians in the country support the radio station that is their Melbourne voice, a kind of magic happens", said Chris Howlett. "They get together in unusual combinations, and their energy and camaraderie creates performances that have people leaping to their feet."
