Memorial Park is an inner-city playground located in the heart of Armadale that has recently undergone a revamp and has re-opened after a short break.

Memorial Park is located right next to Armadale Central Shopping Centre – not to be confused with Armadale Shopping City , which is further down Jull Street. Admittedly, I hadn't actually visited prior to the revamp, so I can't comment on what it used to look like, only what it looks like now, but I must say I am impressed regardless!

If like me, you have never visited Memorial Park, you may be interested to learn that it is named so because it features the city's war memorial – an obelisk dedicated to local soldiers who gave their lives during the Great War. There is also a replica artillery gun, plus memorial plaques around the park.

The playground features a train theme with a station cubby house and a train play structure. There is a slide that can be reached via a rope ladder, which my three year old headed straight for. Younger children will need a little bit of help getting to the top of the rope ladder, but there is also a set of smaller slides for children who are not so confident on the big slide.

One of the more unusual features of the playground is a four-seater 'see-saw' – something I have not seen before, but it's a lot of fun for the kids!

The park has a number of swings, including a birds nest swing, plus a traditional swing set with a baby swing seat and a flat seat.

Another fun activity for children is the sand and water play – in this area, there is also musical play that includes an oversized xylophone and drums.

There is also an unusual climbing structure with rock climbing holds and a table tennis table, but you will need to bring your own paddles and ball!

Within the park grounds is a large lawn area with an amphitheatre-type setting. Minnawarra Park and the lake is only a very short walk away if you are looking for an ideal picnic spot.

Park Café is the closest place for coffee and food, although the busy Jull Street is at your fingertips, along with the Armadale Central food court and various other cafes and food outlets readily available.

Memorial Park is a fun place to take the kids if you are thinking about taking a trip to historical Armadale, do a spot of shopping or just want a family-friendly meal in the area.
