FREE tours of Melton's Christmas lights
323 High St, Melton

With these tours you don't have to get the Google Map out and try to figure out where all the best light shows are.

It can be great getting the kids in their PJs and driving them around the suburbs to see all the beautiful Christmas lights. Some people go to such lengths to impress with thousands of lights and even synchronised music and light presentations.

The best known are of course those in Ivanhoe's Boulevard but that has got a little chaotic over the years.

But there are plenty of suburbs giving Ivanhoe a run for its money with some great alternative in suburbs as diverse as Wantirna, Lilydale, Northcote and Point Cook.

Melton may not have been on your agenda but they have so many great displays that the Melton Rotary Club run organised bus tours each year.

Part of the joy of these free tours is being with others to enjoy the Christmas spirit; something which is hard to do when people are cocooned in individual cars.

The club has run the tours for the last ten or so years with the help of Melton Council. There is no cost except for a gold coin donation for the service. They have five buses running on Friday and Saturday nights in the lead up to Christmas.

The dates for this year are the 13th and 14th, the 20th and 21st and the 22nd of December.

This is a great outing for everyone including families, teenagers, the elderly, and people who don't drive. There is a standard route taken each year with new houses added to the driver's itinerary as they learn about others through word of mouth.

Tours leave from behind the Visitor Information Centre. You can book a place by ringing 9747 7300.
