Celebrating Diversity through Art
In celebrating the diversity of the LGBTI+ community, Brisbane Powerhouse is hosting the MELT Festival (A celebration of Queer Arts and Culture) throughout February in Brisbane. As part of the Festival, the MELT Portrait Prize for visual art is an opportunity for artists to capture their heroes on canvas in the LGBTI+ Community.

A selection of shortlisted artworks submitted by artists from Brisbane and beyond will be exhibited during the Festival (on the walls of the Turbine Platform) with the overall winner to be announced in the second week of the exhibition. Voting is available via the Facebook People's Choice Award at MELT.

The subject of the portrait must be a member of the global LGBTI+ community. Artists do not necessarily have to identify as LGBTI+.

There are two cash prizes for the competition: $1000 for the adjudicator's choice, and $1000 for the People's Choice Awards (voted via Facebook). The winner will be announced on Thursday 11 February 2017 where the public is invited from 6pm for 6.30pm speeches to hear who will take out the overall winner and People's Choice Awards.
