Doing it in style needn't break the bank
High tea has long become associated with beautiful afternoons, whiling away the hours with friends and being treated to delightful little savoury and sweet items set in beautiful surroundings. Typically these beautiful surroundings usually also involves spending a large sum of money. Perhaps it does not need to be this way, and it is possible to experience an elegant high tea without it costing a fortune.
Queen of Hearts High Tea at Koko Black
In this review we're not looking for cheap cafés that are offering a scone and biscuits and calling it high tea, this is all about traditional elegant high tea at low prices.
To get the ball rolling I will make a few suggestions:
For a decadent high tea on the weekends try Koko Black In Collins St. Here you can have a very lovely chocolate high tea for $39.90 for two people people - that's less than $20 a head for a very elegant chocolate high tea. It also includes a decadent chocolate signature beverage or a coffee and tea.
Queenscliff Sorrento Ferry is departing throughout the year with special High Teas often offered at $35pp.
The Light House Gallery in Eltham offers afternoon high tea for $29.90 per person serving 3 courses.
Zimt Patisserie at 171 Union Road, Surrey Hills offers a high tea for $30pp and Nadine says there is so much they had to take some home. See her review here.
So over to you: We would love you to share with us some of your cheap high teas that you have found.
Holmesglen TAFE Moorabbin runs a magnificent high tea for $23! Fridays only, between 12-2pm and only during the term. Patisserie chef students create sweet and savoury masterpieces under guidance of their instructor and price includes unlimited teas and coffees available to try. Wine and cocktails also available to purchase. A wonderful afternoon. Call ahead to book.
