Melbourne’s Best Iced Chocolate and Chocolate Milk Shakes

There are two chocolate cafes that I love going to because of their chocolate drinks made with real melted proper sweet chocolate. They both have such delicious drinks that I can't talk about one without talking about the other.

Max Brenner:

The best, absolutely most amazing cold chocolate drink is a Peanut butter Iced Chockie from Max Brenner (I normally go to Glen Waverley because it is my closest chocolate fix). This beautiful drink promises exactly what it offers a chocolate and peanut butter frappe. It probably sounds odd to the uninitiated but if you have ever been enticed by the sweet and salty nature of peanut and chocolate bars like Snickers or Reece's pieces you will understand why I must get this drink every single time I go there.

For those who are not as adventurous or not as seduced by the thought of peanut butter with chocolate in a milk shake there are a number of other delicious flavours: Cookie shake, Strawberry float, Dark chocolate mocha frappe, Banana milk chocolate frappe and whipped chocolate frappe all of course made with the real melted chocolate.

In this cafe they also get served in a tall Alice cup with a hole in the side for the metal straw which keeps the drink cool the whole way through. The prices range from 7.60 to 8.60 but are worth it. I would rather have one of these than have dinner or lunch if I was making such an economic choice.

Theobroma Cafe:

Although Theobroma (I tend to go to the one in Knox, yet again because it is closest) doesn't have the range of iced chocolate flavours that Max Brenner has, their chocolate milkshakes are really quite delicious. I would recommend these over their iced chocolate frappes as they are far more chocolate-y.

They also have iced chocolates and iced mocha frappes that are good if you want a slightly less sweet experience. But let's face it if you want to drown in cold melted chocolate the chocolate milkshake is the way to go. It is sweet and very full of chocolate including drizzling it down the side in beautiful chocolate drizzlets. (Always awkward when you try and eat them in the cafe. I am surprised more people don't end up trying to dip their whole face into the cup to try and get the rest of the drink. But I suppose not everyone can be me.)

Both of these stores have beautiful iced chocolates and I suppose the main decision always comes down to, which one is closer so that you can get your necessary chocolate fix as soon as possible.

Oh and the most important hint that I can give anyone going to either stores is to order a chocolate shot with their drink. This chocolate shot costs around $2 and is a shot glass of simply melted chocolate... there is no way you can have a better experience than a iced chocolate milk shake in one hand and a decadent spoonful of melted chocolate in the other.
