I'm a freelance writer living in Melbourne who loves to get outside and enjoy the great city we live in.

There is nothing like the thrill of discovering a hidden gem in the middle of the city. Melbourne has many fantastic bars that are kept well hidden. These are some of my favourites.
Rooftop Bar, Level 7, 252 Swanston Street
This bar can be found above The Toff in Town and offers great views of the surrounding city. It serves some solid burgers and has some great beers too.
The Red Hummingbird, Level 1, 246 Russell Street
With only a red bird cage above the door to give away the location of this bar, it can be easy to miss. They serve good cocktails here and also have a rooftop bar which can be a great place to spend a Friday night.
Section 8, 27-29 Tattersalls Lane
Down an small lane and near the equally popular Camy Shanghai Dumpling, Section 8 is a happening place on the weekend. The drinks and seating are basic, but with DJs on the weekend and a good crowd, you are sure to have a good night.
The Workshop on corner of Elizabeth St and Buckett St is a really good bar with good music too with a dj on weekend. It belongs to the same owner than Section 8. Or Black Cat on Brunswick St still for the same guy.
Hi Sean, I found this "watering hole" on the Yarra just two days ago, on a very rough and off-road bike ride. Unfortunately for us, it was closed at the time, but definitely want to return as it is absolutely magic. Does it have a name?
