There are some fabulously stylish haircuts walking around Melbourne, and we figure that they must have had their hair cut somewhere. We want to know where. We're looking for Melbourne's best hair salons, because we want to put an end to stylists who don't understand the word 'trim', and to the colourists who use Taylor Momsen as their inspiration. We've got a few ideas as to where you can get a good styling, but if you've found a place where the cuts and colours are just divine, make sure you let us know about it.
Lure are a creative hairdressing salon in Fitzroy, and their main focus is to deliver great style in a fun environment. They'll find you a stylist based on whether you're looking for a feminine or masculine cut, or can completely restyle your do. These guys offer cheap cuts if all you need to do is touch up your fringe, and they also offer a 10% discount to students. They're fun and funky, but are they the best?
Fitzroy is a popular place because this is also where you'll find Cream Melbourne, who claim to be "innovative, fun and totally cool." They're about creating stylish cuts, and natural vibrant looking colours, but if it is something wild and out there that you're after they'll be able to do that too. Make sure you ask them about their $25 off promotion for first time clients. These two aren't the only Fitzroy salons, BIBA also have a Fitzroy salon but there are still others scattered all over Melbourne.
If you love BIBA then you've got over 10 locations to choose from when selecting your favourite spot. They are a creative lot with a focus on hair design. If you're in a bit of a rut then maybe BIBA is the place to go to help reinvent and rejuvenate your hair. Could their creative styles and BIBA hair academy be enough to have them named Melbourne's best hair salon?
Shibui are a hair salon that aren't focussed on creating tower tall looks from off the runway, but on creating a natural, simple, and subtle look that suits you best. They endeavour to create looks that will keep looking great day after day, not only after you've salon grade styling session. Are their low fuss looks what keep you coming back?
So spill your secrets, and let us know where you think we'll find Melbourne's best hair salon. We're open to horror stories too, whether it was that haircut that made you cry or the colour that just never looked right. Let us know what you look for in a good hair stylist, and which salon in Melbourne delivers this best.

The best hairdresser is D'Artanian Dior (what a name I must say) he's an award winning hairdresser in Victoria and in the Uk, I had my hair cut with him AMAZING! Attention to details and he takes time looking at your face shapes and he's honest, if it won't work it won't work he says to me. Not cheap but he's one of the best! Definately would recommend him to anyone. The Pink Lady :) x

I went to shibui 2 weeks ago and liked it. They did a fantastic cut but my colour was a little darker than originally discussed. Staff were friendly and great. Overall, 7 out of 10

I have been getting my hair cut (and coloured in previous years) by Julia who's now opened Respekt Your Hair right near Windsor station. She does fantastic cuts and truly stunning colours... and she's lovely to boot!

I would like to recommend Mieka hairdressing in Collingwood. I had D'Artanian cut my hair recently and I am loving the look of my hair, I have been to a lot of hairdressers, some are good and some weren't so good cutting curly hair. For some reason, just the way he cut my hair I am now managing it better the salon it self and staff are very friendly and bubbly! I felt very welcomed straight away, not like other salons I have been too, the music are too loud, hairdressers just talk alot amongst themselves. Go and try D'Artanian, he's Gasometer and very honest about what would work for your face and hair type! (Anne Bundoora)

Susihairko in Wattle Park, Vic is fabulous. I've been going to Susi for 5 years now and have always been very happy with the results and the fair pricing. Susi keeps up with fashion trends and can do anything from conservative to way out. Love Susihairko, including her fair pricing.

Rokk ebony in Carlton! The total experience. Great hairdressers, been going there for a few months now. Hands down the best. My wife went to biba and wasn't happy with the service. A place that attracts Lewis Hamilton amongst others can't be bad can it? ;) plus the girl at the front desk is hot!

I get my hair cut at Rokk Ebony. I don't have my hair colored, but from observation, they do a good job. They have a few locations, South Melbourne is probably the easiest to get to from the CBD & that's the one I go to.

The Best Hair Salon in Melbourne is Esprit Hair and Day Spa - Level 1, Flinders Lane, City. I have been to alot of hair salons in the past but this one i can't recommend enough. Apart from the most exquistite looking salon/day spa i have ever seen, the creative crew there are extremely talented and really respect their profession and clients. They are all good. They always do an amazing style, cut, colour etc.. for me. As it is also a Day Spa I usually get a treatment or massage when I am there so I always feel like a brand new woman every time I step out of this New York inspired salon. Amazing. I highly recommend it. Check out website.

For me, it has to be A&J Hair Trendz in Southbank/South Melbourne. Anna is an absolute master when it comes to hair. Plus, her prices are very reasonable. VERY good at colouring/colour corrections and foils.

My younger daughter now 40 yrs has used a stylist called Marc One for years and I have also. I had at the best hair cut from him since having it cut and styled in France in my twenties at the very prestigious Vidal Sassoon. It al depends of course on you.
