Europe is a popular travel destination, but where do you go to get a taste of Europe without travelling so far? We're looking for Melbourne's best European restaurant, it could be a blend of many European cuisines, or a traditional French, Spanish, or Italian restaurant. Perhaps you prefer the Mediterranean flavours of Greek cuisine, or the hearty winter meals that come out of central Europe. As long as you're a lover of European cuisine, we want to know where you go.

One restaurant that embraces European cuisine is the aptly named, The European . They claim their restaurant "mines the traditions of rural France, Italy, and Spain" and who are we to complain? You get the best of all of these cuisines, in an environment that just feels so, well, European. You may feel like starting with a Spanish tomato gazpacho with crab and avocado, dining on an Italian seasonal mushroom risotto with truffle oil, and then finishing with a French crème brûlée. It is all possible here.

Of course not everyone can be all inclusive, and perhaps one of the best European restaurants deals in just one cuisine. There are certainly many appetising French restaurants to choose from. France-Soir , hopefully pun intended, has a menu with everything you would expect, from steaks to duck, to rich casseroles. Of course the dessert menu is something special too. Other French restaurants that could be up for the title are The French Brasserie , and Comme , each with delicious French food.

You can't look past Italian food in Melbourne, so perhaps the best European restaurant is of this variety. A few names thrown around when we asked for Melbourne's best Italian restaurant included Grossi Florentino , Medici , and plenty of pizza places that have authentic styles. Sarti is a delightful modern Italian restaurant with some delicious meals on offer, including a four course degustation menu.

We haven't even managed to talk about any of the great Spanish restaurants heralding in the Fiesta, or waterfront Greek restaurants with some of the best seafood, let alone the heath German meals that go so well with a stein of beer. Let us know where you find your favourite slice of Europe, and help us track down Melbourne's best European restaurant.
