Were you ever keen on seeing the old world glamour of a Hollywood speakeasy - but lacked a time machine and suitable pork pie hat - you'd find a happy home at The Melbourne Supper Club. This is a bar that does well a big and sprawling space - but yet maintains manages to maintain that cosy and intimate feel throughout.
Evidence of this is apparent the second you wander on in for you'll be greeted by a sizeable depiction of Columbia, represented here in the pose that'll be familiar to anyone who spends time watching a movie or two now and then.

Yet, go beyond either side and there is ample seating, with a raised section looking out a grand window onto Spring St - or alternatively - head to the left for a quieter arrangement of seating along and beyond the bar.

Concerning the menu, while 'supper' features in the title of the club - and food is indeed on offer - cocktails are perhaps the focus of most patrons that visit. With this, the bar is well equipped for this task, with extra points owed for the inclusion of drinks like Chinotto, the bittersweet Italian cola that is a beloved stable of after-dinner a few blocks up the road on Lygon St. In turn, for those keen on trying a wider variety of tastes on the palate, heading upstairs to Siglo Bar - the sister establishment of the Melbourne Supper Club - is a good, close-at-hand option.
Overall, this club represents well some of the cooler and more sublime elements of this city. A bar with ample space that at once allows individual people/groups a place for themselves - yet cosy enough to feel like your still sharing the space with your fellow Melburnians.
In turn, while surely a fedora would be not be out of place in such a stylish venue - you need not have one to wander on in. Instead, however you arrive, it could not be long to you feel at home, drink in hand and night to enjoy.
