The Melbourne festival scene heats up in Summer 2016, and there is plenty on offer this season. The year kicks off with a street food festival, and then heads in to several outdoor, music, art and lifestyle events in February. Some of the classic festivals including Moomba and the Food and Wine Festival take us through to March 2016.

The International Street Food Festival will run from January 15th to 17th 2016 on River Terrace at the Yarra next to Federation Square.The festival is a free community based celebration of street food, and includes live music, artistic performances and family entertainment.



Midsumma Festival is Melbourne's biggest celebration of Queer arts and culture. The festival will open on the 17th of January, and run through to the 7th of February 2016. Events include a Carnival, Pride March, and a range of creative, sporting, and cultural events.



The Sustainable Living Festival will be held from February 6-28th 2016 and provides a range of stalls, events, and talks about sustainable ways to live on the planet.



The iconic St Kilda Festival will be held on February 14th 2016, and draws over 400,000 visitors to St Kilda. The festival includes a market, live music, dance, and performance events.



White Night Melbourne is on February 20th 2016 and it is an all-night, free cultural event with art, music, food, theatre, fashion, and film performances. The event runs from 7pm to 7am in the centre of Melbourne, and is a family-friendly and inclusive festival.



Melbourne Food & Wine Festival 2016 will run from March 4-13th across a range of Melbourne and regional venues. This is also an excellent chance to try out local restaurants, sample wines, and enjoy the great food culture of Melbourne.



Moomba Festival 2016 will be held from March 11-14th and encourages performers, community groups, and the public to take part in this celebration of Melbourne by the Yarra River.



Brunswick Music Festival will run from March 15-20th 2016 to celebrate the longest running urban music festival in Australia. The Sydney Road Street Party is a key event with food stalls, live performances and a great range of pubs and cafes to check out along the way.
