"Wow, thrilling and I loved it!" sum up my thoughts on the performance of Romeo and Juliet by the Melbourne Shakespeare Company.

Most of us know the story of Romeo and Juliet and I was expecting just that. But this performance was a whole lot more and then some. Set in the roaring 1920s, it tells this story respectfully with swinging beats, singing and dancing as well as gut-wrenching, hilarious (the nurse!) and breath-taking performances by all the cast in all the right places. The 1920's theme was very relatable and despite knowing the ending I found myself still holding my breath.

Staged in the gorgeous Rose Garden in the St. Kilda Botanical Gardens with plenty of seating and cushions provided, it is suggested you bring a picnic with you to enjoy while watching the show. We attended the evening performance and with the sun setting behind the stage and facing out towards the gardens you couldn't get a better backdrop.

Tickets are very reasonably priced at $30 for general admission. You can catch this show at The Rose Garden at St. Kilda Botanical Gardens at 11 Herbert Street, St. Kilda with the show running for approximately 90 minutes.
