So, I am here to tell you, that it's time to get out there and become active with your creativity, with your poetic voice. No ifs, buts or maybes.
You are not going to fall through the floor, it's impossible. You are not going to have tomatoes thrown at you on stage, as far as I know Melburnians don't carry tomatoes around with them.
Take all the heartache and drama out of the equation and get active. Get your poetry out there. Your words could effect another's life. Your words could get you published or lead you somewhere amazing. At the very least, you will get to mingle and network with like-minded individuals.
Below I have suggested two places to start your poetry journey. I have performed and been part of both. They are terrific.
Look forward to seeing you up on the stage or in print very soon.

Idols usually take place in libraries around Melbourne, followed by mingling and free cheese and wine. If you are fortunate enough to get through the heat, you could be published in the Paradise Anthology or end up performing your poetry at The Melbourne Writers Festival. What a hoot!
Poetry open mic at the Dan O Connell Hotel is awesome. Starts at 2pm on a Saturday. Usually you can perform just by rocking up and putting your name down - although sometimes they have a 'featured poet.' Check out the Dan O Connell website to confirm the finer details.
