Imagine having to mix with the common people by the Yarra's edge as you wait to watch the fireworks. Drunk revellers, screaming children and a packed train home- no thanks. Here are some more sophisticated ways to bring in the new year in style.

[SECTION]Black and White Masquerade Party[/SECTION]
Don't sweat over any embarrassment you cause yourself on NYE- at a masquerade party, nobody will ever know it was you. A masquerade party is the perfect option for anyone wanting to have a good time without their reputation suffering for it.

The Black and White Masquerade Party, hosted at the World Restaurant and Bar , will have live music as well as DJs. Best of all, it doesn't finish until 3am.

The basic main bar package at $170 per person, which gives you access to the dancefloor and main bar area, includes canapes and house spirits, beer and wine. Or, get a perfect view of the fireworks overlooking the Yarra with the $230 per person riverside package, which also includes a cocktail on arrival and better canapes and drinks. Buy tickets here .

[SECTION]Great Gatsby Spectacular[/SECTION]

Swanky nightspot Silk Road will be transformed into the ostentatious Gatsby mansion on New Year's Eve . With a movie remake of the classic novel set to be released in 2013, there is no better time than now to put together your best Daisy, Jay Gatsby or Nick ensemble. The three level, multi room venue will boast live music, tasty canapes and a generously stocked bar.

The black tie affair (Silk Road is notoriously strict on dress code) costs between $140 to $220 per person depending on what package you select. Book your spot here .

[SECTION]Gangsters, Molls and Jazz of the 1940s[/SECTION]
Swing dance your way in to 2013 at the Gangsters, Molls and Jazz of the 1940s themed celebration at the recently re-opened Barkers Wine Bar in Hawthorn.

Live music, wood fired pizza and plenty of alcohol -all included in the ticket price- ensure that it will be a great night. Admission is $140 per person for the five hour evening, which concludes an hour into the new year. Get your ticket in advance here .

[SECTION]Chill On Ice Lounge and Ski Lodge[/SECTION]

Watch the fireworks from the comfort of the ski lodge at Chill On . For $89 per person, you can join their cocktail party from 9pm until 3am. The cost includes premium admission to the ice lounge, and two drinks and light canapes in the ski lodge. Currently the ice lounge, which is kept at a cool ten degrees below zero, is filled with intricate ice monuments such as the Eiffel Tower and the Colosseum with their 'wonders of the world' theme. See their impressive ice sculptures in the video below.

[SECTION]A Long Night in Paris[/SECTION]
No, it's not a sequel to Paris Hilton's famous film. Instead, it's a classy New Year's Eve celebration revolving around food at French restaurant Mr Mason . An eight course French degustation meal sampling a variety of gourmet dishes is the perfect way to finish off 2012. As the restaurant is well known for its selection of boutique wines, it is only fitting that the courses are accompanied by matched wines.

The experience costs $155 per person and must be booked in advance.
