Melbourne Now has taken over all levels of The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia. Melbourne Now 2023 is an exhibition that will be displayed throughout all levels of The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, showcasing new works and commissions by over 200 Victorian-based artists, designers, studios and firms, including permanent collection galleries. The exhibition traverses a diverse range of contemporary creative disciplines across fashion, jewellery, painting, sculpture, architecture, ceramics, video, virtual reality, performance, photography, printmaking, product design and publishing.

Some of the show-stoppers include Troy Emery's Mountain Climber, a 3.5-metre-high feline covered in 9000 pompoms, and James Lemon's installation Swarming, an entire multi-sensory room that imagines the inside of a beehive in gold and ultraviolet, with furry bee sculptures people (kids especially) can climb inside.

Melbourne Now 2023 marks 10 years since the inaugural exhibition, paving the way for the NGV's much-loved Triennial and its new contemporary gallery, set to open in 2028. It showcases a disconcerting and humorous commentary on reality TV, technology and dating through Georgia Banks' ChatBot installation, and explores virtual death through Shaun Gladwell's Passing Electrical Storms and Kiron Robinson's installation. With 70 new commissions and an extensive public program hosting 350 talks during its run, Melbourne Now 2023 offers an inspiring mix of established artists and rising stars, giving a sense of the breadth and diversity of the art and design being made right here, right now.

The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia is the Australian art collection of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), which is the oldest and largest public art museum in Australia. The Ian Potter Centre is located at Federation Square in Melbourne, and it showcases a vast collection of Australian art from the colonial period to contemporary times.

The collection at the Ian Potter Centre usually includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, and multimedia works by Australian artists such as Tom Roberts, Frederick McCubbin, Sidney Nolan, Arthur Boyd, Brett Whiteley, Howard Arkley, Tracey Moffatt, and many others. The collection also features Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, which is an integral part of Australian art history and culture.

The Ian Potter Centre is named after Sir Ian Potter, a prominent Australian philanthropist who donated funds towards the construction of the building. The Centre is a hub for art exhibitions, education programs, and research activities related to Australian art. It also houses the NGV's extensive collection of Australian art books, catalogues, and other publications.

The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Australian art and culture, offering a rich and diverse experience that celebrates the unique heritage and creativity of the country.
