Melbourne is getting ready to party like there's no tomorrow this December thanks to the City of Melbourne and the Victorian Government. It is already gearing up to launch the much awaited Christmas Festival, which will feature 6 weeks of festive attractions.

The revelry will continue on 31 December night with the New Year's Eve light up. Lord Mayor Sally Capp shared that Melburnians have missed the chance to celebrate together and the Council is putting its best foot forward to bring in 2023 with a not-to-be-missed spectacular of fireworks, laser beams and music. It's going to be the biggest ever New Year's Eve celebration in the city. Here are the highlights:

  • Party Zones - celebrations will take place at Docklands, Flagstaff Gardens, Treasury Gardens and Kings Domain. You can look forward to family-friendly options with light installations, dance workshops, live music, DJs and food trucks .

  • Celebrations - there are plenty of options to spend your money on New Year's Eve including the the Falls Festival at Sidney Myer Music Bowl with dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other contemporary performances. The Arts Centre Melbourne will play host to the Aussie Pops Orchestra's New Year's Eve Gala extravaganza starring superstars Marina Prior and John Foreman.

  • Food and Drink Feast - check out venues around the activation zones providing special food and drink offers to welcome the new year.

  • Fireworks - you and your family can look forward to activation zones across the city spewing fireworks and laser displays from 30 CBD rooftops, 8 more than in previous years. The midnight fireworks display will be accompanied by an 8 minute soundtrack, curated by Melbourne producer and DJ Mike Katz. The fireworks display is so massive that you'll be able to see the dazzle as long as you can view the city skyline. There is also a 9.30pm localised fireworks display.

  • Best of all, the New Year's Eve outdoor light up is free for everyone to enjoy. Make sure you're in the City to watch the biggest fireworks display ever and welcome in the New Year. If you're unable to join in the revelry and welcoming the New Year at home, you can tune in to the official New Year's Eve live broadcast with Channel 9 from 11pm. Check this website for updates.
