Following it's successful inception in 2010, Melbourne Music Week is set to return "with a refined artistic direction and a strengthened approach to supporting the industry".
Boasting over 65 events throughout the course of the week, 2011's MMW is set to showcase what it is that makes Melbourne's music scene so unique and diverse. As you'd expect, there's an amazing line-up of local talent playing through the week, in addition to a series of workshops, seminars, films and kids activities.
Something that's got this writer particularly excited about this event is the inclusion of Melbourne-born-London-based band, HTRK in the lineup of live acts. These guys haven't played in Australia since they left for the questionably greener pastures of Berlin in 2007.
But HTRK won't be the only band exciting audiences this week; also playing are Midnight Juggernauts, Beaches, Montero, Teeth and Tongue, the Orbweavers and many more.
There will be a variety of free and ticketed events during the week, suited to all tastes and aspects of the music industry.
One of the best things about this event is that it's spread out throughout Melbourne, as opposed to being focused in one venue. This gives each and every one of you an opportunity to do a little bit of exploring (if you haven't drawn your own map of Melbourne on aged paper, you've still got work to do) and find new places to spend your weekends and days off.
Here's hoping it proves to be an excellent week, I hope to see some amateur cartography from you all after this.
