Special things to do with a special lady
Mother's Day is fast approaching and will be celebrated this year on Sunday 12th May!
Mothers are super special - there is no better way for me to describe them. They pick you up when you are down, take care of you when you are hurt and are always there with love and support and an ear when you need to vent.
So here's to mothers and in no particular order, my top 4 (mostly) Melbourne ideas for Mother's day.
1. The Mother's Day Classic
Mother's Day Class Run
The Mother's Day classic is again upon us. The event was created by Women in Super, which is a network of women who work within the superannuation and financial industries and help raise funds for women experiencing or who have experienced breast cancer.
During the 4-8 km run or walk you are able to wear the name of a loved one who has been touched by breast cancer on your tribute card.
This one may be for those mums into health and fitness or perhaps you can take part in honour of the mums in your life and concurrently support a fantastic cause in their name.
The event occurs in and around the Alexandra Gardens and the Tan Track with more information available on the website.
And do remember that if running or walking isn't your thing you can also join as a volunteer.
2. High Tea
I have so many memories of afternoon tea while growing up. We would have little pikelets (super mini pancakes) with all the trimmings, scones and or a cake, which were always served with tea in a teapot and with lovely cups and saucers. But in our busy daily lives, it's tea in a mug and a splash your choice of milk (or lemon) and go! So I say why not go back to the good old days and enjoy something a little elegant with a fantastic high tea for Mother's Day.
The Langham Hotel's Mother's Day High Tea
Around Melbourne there are several high teas on offer, including Mother's high tea at the Langham at $85 per adult & $42.50 per child with 3 sittings at 10.30am – 12.30pm - morning tea, 1.00pm – 3.00pm - afternoon tea and 3.30pm – 5.30pm - afternoon tea), Saigon Sally's Vietnamese High Tea at $45-80 with Japanese savoury snacks and a handmade ceramic tea bowl by artist Angie Russi with a free ticket to the Golden Age of Colour Prints exhibition being presented at the SAM and high tea at the Crown at $49 per person at the Waiting room hotel lounge and bar. 3. Mother's Day Movie Marathon
I love sitting with my Mother watching specially rented or recorded "Mommy movies". There is a special kind of movie that is best watched with your mother. Often a movie with extra romance, maybe a little sad but with a happy ending or just a fabulous romantic comedy. Here are my picks for your Mother's Day movie marathon, which include anything based on a Nicholas Sparks novel such as the Notebook, The Lake House and Message in a Bottle, the Sound of Music, No Reservations, Hope Floats, Step Mom, The Holiday and Steel Magnolias. Match these delights with home popped popcorn and tea or hot chocolate and you are ready to enjoy a wonderful day.
4. Beauty Spa Mother's Day
For something a little more luxurious try organising a beauty day for your mother. Nothing says I love you by ensuring your mother can enjoy her gift purely for herself. There are many options available including sending your mother for the full treatment in a spa or depending on your budget you could opt for a manicure or pedicure or perhaps a new hair cut or fabulous blow wave. There are several spas in Melbourne including Endota Spa, Crown Day Spa, and Body Freedom Urban Day Spa .
