Join the Chinese festive spirit by celebrating the Mooncake festival at Queen Victoria Market on Sunday 11st September from 9am to 4pm. Sample delicious Asian street cuisine as you watch traditional Chinese dance and martial arts performances.

The Chinese Mooncake festival is one of the biggest festivals in the Chinese calendar. It is on the night of 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, when the Moon shines the brightest, and is at its fullest and roundest. The festival signifies the end of the fall harvest for the farmers and is traditionally celebrated with Chinese families returning home and admiring the full moon together and eating mooncakes.

Mooncakes are an important aspect to the occasion, as family members and friends would offer mooncakes to one another and celebrate the festival together. The palm sized cakes are usually made with a thin crust on the outside, a paste filling on the inside and a salted duck egg yolk in the very centre to represent the moon. These mouth-watering sweet cakes can be quite heavy and filling, so be sure to eat it slowly, piece by piece.

Along with mooncakes and full moon viewings, other customary celebrations include lighting sky lanterns, dragon dance performances and outdoor barbeques. The celebrations at Queen Victoria Market will also have kids' activities and handicraft stalls for adults to browse around and admire.
