Have you ever dreamed of pulling a rabbit out of a hat, defying gravity or restoring a woman sawn in two? Then the Melbourne Magic Festival is one event you canít afford to miss. However, even if youíve only ever attempted a feeble card trick there is still something for you at this yearís festival.
The Melbourne Magic Festival will run from 29th June to 11th July at the Northcote Town Hall and includes a jam-packed schedule of live performances, competitions and even magic classes. Parking is available in the streets surrounding the town hall or alternatively, you can take the Epping train line to Northcote station. Shows run daily from 11am to 10pm. Tickets for each event are around $10-$20 and can be purchased online.
One of the highlights of the festival is the Aim Stage Gala Show and the Aim Close Up Gala Show which feature a wide range of Australian magicians in an entertaining two hour performance. Other magicians performing solo shows include the popular Tim Ellis described as ĎAustraliaís favourite magicianí. Furthermore, each Saturday the Australian Junior Magic Championships will be run where twelve budding magicians will compete for the title of junior champion.
Magic auctions will also be held, where unusual and unique items such as vanishing torches, collapsible top hats and even costumes will be up for grabs.
For those seeking a magical education, classes for adults and children will be run by the magicians themselves and will teach you anything from making a wand float in your hand to acting skills. Tickets start from $12 and are one hour for children and two hours for adults.
