We live in this great city. Let's explore how to ensure we capture creatively the essence of its beauty.

Exact details are not always required to capture a good shot that displays the mood of what you are photographing.

Hosier Lane is one of the most photographed places in Melbourne. Let's look at these shots and how they differently depict this iconic location in Melbourne.

Rather than keep the whole image in focus, try this:

Focus on a spot close to you, either using manual focus or half press your shutter button... have your aperture opened wide to blur the background.. tease the viewer with vague details.. by placing your camera on a solid surface - (the ground)- the shutter speed can be slow.. take lots of shots at variable speed

Next: Isolate (zoom) in on a component of the laneway and post edit it by putting words on the image. This artist was only too happy to cooperate with this shot.

The laneways of Melbourne are a photographer's delight, they do not always have to be photographed exactly as seen. Look for a different angle or zoom in on a component. All SLR s will cope with these variations, most smart phones now can under and over expose as well as have varying focus ranges.
