The Kokoda track is a part of our history that is etched in many people's memories.

The Kokoda memorial challenge is coming to Melbourne again this year on 27 October from 7am.



Whether you wish to remember the past or just simply take part in a really fun exercise activity, The Kokoda memorial challenge can be completed on either a 50km or a 15 km stretch.

It comprises of a team cross country and bush walking challenge, which is designed to reflect the spirit of Kokoda.

As such it aims to encompass courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice. The organisers advised that all types of different people will take part in this challenge as it sets personal goals for the individual and at the same time assists young people to become contributing members of society.

It encourages all to achieve extraordinary things.

The challenge will begin in the Dandenong Ranges at Ferntree Gully, it then continues to Kalorama and takes in the Kokoda memorial walk with the 1000 steps, before coming back down the Dandenong Ranges.

To make the day even more special, they advised that there will be veterans of the 39th Australian infantry Battalion Association who was among the first Australians to set foot on the Kokoda track and they will be present to watch the challenge begin.

The organisers are expecting around 600 competitors this year, up from the 300 competitors that took part last year.

The monies raised from this event will be used for the Kokoda challenge youth program - a 12 month program which is aimed at people aged between 15 and 18 years, assisting them to build resilience, self-esteem and life skills which will carry them into their later years.

Entry is $70 per person and registrations will take place on the website from 18 July 2013.
