Celebrate the festival that gives thanks to one’s ancestors
The Melbourne Japanese Summer Festival will feature plenty of family-friendly fun and entertainment, with a showcase of traditional and contemporary Japanese culture.

This FREE multicultural festival will be held at Federation Square from 11:30am-5:30pm and will feature celebrations and festivities as it honours the tradition of Obon, a festival to give thanks to one's ancestors, which includes the Bon Dance.

There will be a new generation of young performers this year entertaining you and the whole family with their singing, dance, and Cosplay talents.

Stage Entertainment includes opening speeches, drum acts, dance and cosplay dance performances, karate demonstrations, music performances, best-dressed awards, a thank you speech, raffle draw, and closing remarks.

There will also be arts and crafts, traditional acts such as taiko drumming and Okinawan folk music, carnival games, such as yo-yo and toy fishing, with economy tickets to Tokyo up for grabs.

The raffle draw will feature over forty prizes to be won, and is one event at the festival not to miss out on!

Some of Melbourne's fantastic Japanese restaurants will be offering something for everyone to feast on, including street food favourites yakitori, takoyaki, and other delicious delights. There will also be ice cream and cold beers available throughout the festival.
