The Melbourne Guitar Foundation is proudly presenting the annual Melbourne International Guitar Festival on the weekend of the 23rd to 25th of September 2016.Held at Melbourne University, this 3-day event features a jam-packed program of 4 exciting concerts, 3 engaging masterclasses, Australia's most prestigious annual classical guitar competition plus interactive workshops and presentations!Opening the festival is a flute/guitar recital by two of Australia's finest instrumentalists, Virginia Taylor and Tim Kain. As a duo, Virginia and Tim enjoy a close friendship born of the joy of joint music making over a period of 30 years. They are also recognised as leaders in their field and have had a major long-term impact on the status and profile of their instruments in Australia.The beauty of sound created by the combination of flute and guitar has generated one of the largest and most appealing chamber repertoires of modern times and this event is a shining example of this contemporary musical richness.The festival also features two international concerts with Brazilian superstar Chrystian Dozza, who will perform a concert entirely of his own compositions, and Italian virtuoso Adriano Del Sal, a professor of guitar at Vienna University who has won 12 first prizes in major international performance competitions.The final concert features the famous Brew Guitar Duo, recognised as one of Australia's leading guitar ensembles. The Brew Guitar Duo plays with a refreshing blend of humour, imagination, and technical mastery. workshop have closed, however, the rehearsal is open for viewing to the public.A guitar display by GuitarsOnline.com.au and will also be available to view over the weekend. Complementing the display is a presentation by master luthier Chris Wynne from Thomas Lloyd Guitars about Australian tonewoods in guitar construction.There will also be a raffle over the weekend with the major prize of a guitar building course at Thomas Lloyd Guitars, valued at $3,500. The winner will have the opportunity to build and take home their own customised guitar!The final for the OPEN category of the performance competition will see competitors from Italy, Bratislava, New Zealand and right across Australia compete for $1000 cash and a paid 8 concert Australian tour. This is free for the public to observe on Sunday.
