Something strange has happened in my life and that of thousands of other Brisbaneites. The amount of laughter, inappropriate jokes, swears and revelry in our lives has dropped by a whopping 87%* since the end of the Brisbane Comedy Festival at the Powerhouse. Sigh…
Well sigh no more sad sacks! Comedy is back at the Powerhouse from the 29th of April to the 2nd of May in the form of the . Any stand-up groupie worth their salt could tell you the Melbourne International Comedy Festival has been raging against the dying of the pun for what seems like twenty million weeks now but is more likely about four weeks. Since time is relative I don't expect anyone to troll me in the comments about that last statement.
The PR for the show promises to cure our collective MICF FOMO, saying, "This year the five national and international all-stars coming to you are Kevin Kropinyeri (MC), David Quirk, Jen Kirkman (USA), Nath Valvo and Wil Sylvince (USA)."
As we all know, comedy is very subjective. I don't mind some sweary, inappropriate humour, surrealism, absurdism, political humour and highbrow humour written to appeal to the intelligentsia. You might prefer slapstick, yo mumma jokes, puns, observational or G-rated work.
What I like isn't going to necessarily be what you like, so why not check out these clips to see if the acts are your kind of funny? If they tickle your humerus, scroll to the bottom for booking details.
Kevin Kropinyeri
David Quirk
Jen Kirkman
Nath Valvo
Wil Sylvince
Anecdotal. No real statistical data was taken.
