The Melbourne Insight Meditation Group (MIMG) will be hosting their MIMG Annual Retreat, entitled Open Heart, Open Mind, this April, in the idyllic Strathbogie Ranges. All are welcome to attend this retreat, which is one of the major highlights of the MIMG event calendar.
MIMG practices traditional Vipassanā, or as it is referred to in the West, Insight Meditation. Since MIMG was founded in 2009, the Victorian based group has extended its community of practitioners to some 600 members and regularly hosts guided meditation sessions, one day workshops with visiting teachers and 3, 5 and 7 day retreats throughout the year.
Both beginner or experienced meditators are welcome to join the MIMG community and participate in their range of regular sits, which namely take place in the Ceres Learning Centre in East Brunswick and Buddhist Society of Victoria (BSV) in East Malvern.
Like the regular sits, the forthcoming MIMG Annual Retreat is also designed to be accessible to all, as one can choose to attend the Full Retreat (7 days), Short Retreat (5 days) or Long Weekend (3 days). Regardless of which option you decide to take, you will be able to fully immerse yourself in the traditional Buddhist practices under the guidance of the experienced MIMG teachers; Carol Perry, co-founder of Dharmananda, a sustainable community in northern NSW and owner of a mindfulness-based psychotherapy (Hakomi) practice in Lismore NSW & Melbourne, and Subhana Barzaghi, a qualified teacher in two Buddhist traditions: Vipassana Insight Meditation tradition and Zen Buddhist tradition, resident teacher of the Sydney Zen Centre, founder of the Kuan Yin Zen Centre in Lismore and founding teacher of Blue Gum Sangha in Sydney.
Together Perry and Barzaghi have over 60 years of Insight Meditation experience and in addition to their teachings, they will guide meditators through a range of activities; sitting, walking and standing meditation, optional yoga asana to assist in sitting, one on one posture support, private and group interviews, questions and inquiry with teachers, Dharma talks, instructions for meditation, guided meditation, mindfulness work and free time.
The retreat will take place from April 25th to May 2nd, 2013; there are three options you can choose from - prices are as follows;
Full Retreat (7 days) $535 Short Retreat (5 days) $385 Long Weekend (3 days) $235
The retreat venue is the unique Kallara Conference Centre, nestled into the Strathbogie Ranges foothills, adjacent to native bushland and boasting abundant wildlife.
